Client: The Shirt Factory, Gloucester & County to County
Sector: Commercial / Office redevelopment
Project Focus: Design and installation of ventilation and air conditioning systems across three floors
Location: Gloucester city centre
The client
The Shirt Factory is a commercial office building in the heart of Gloucester, with workspace spread across three floors.
SK Heating & Cooling was brought in by the main contractor, County to County, to deliver the climate side of the fit-out.
The Gloucester Shirt Co. was founded in 1882 by HTTT Higgins, and in the early 20th Century The Shirt Factory, on Magdala Road, was born. A building of workrooms where every aspect of a shirt’s anatomy was crafted by industry artisans. Once home to the city’s famous shirt makers, the building has been sensitively transformed and repurposed.
The Shirt Factory is now Gloucester’s newest place to do business. Located at the centre of the city this new work destination offers a diverse mix of flexible work spaces equipped to enable local business to grow. A thriving mix of start ups, tech geeks, business entrepreneurs, engineers, fabricators and creatives. A vibrant community that comes together… and grows together.
SK Heating & Cooling ltd were appointed by developers County to County Property Group
The challenge
SK had to fit Heat pump air conditioning and ventilation across three separate floors, working to the main contractor’s programme and around other trades on a busy city centre site.
Each floor needed its own comfortable working climate, with systems that would be easy to run and maintain once tenants moved in. Plant and condensers had to be sited sensibly on the rooftop, within the building’s limits.
The solution
SK was awarded the Design & Build contract through the main contractor. That meant taking the project from design through to a fully working, commissioned system, rather than installing to someone else’s drawings.
SK designed and installed air conditioning across all three floors, with rooftop condenser units feeding the indoor units below. MVHR ventilation was installed on the first floor serving individual units and communal areas. Midea systems were used for the air conditioning and a Daikin MVHR system for the ventilation.

The results
Comfortable, climate-controlled workspace
Every business unit now has air conditioning and fresh-air ventilation, giving tenants a comfortable place to work in summer and winter alike providing their own time and temperature control to suit unique individual business needs.
Delivered around a live site
SK worked to the main contractor’s programme, coordinating with other trades to keep the wider redevelopment moving. The project was delivered on time and on budget, with zero disruption to neighbouring units.
Built to last
The systems were specified for long life and straightforward maintenance, so the building’s managers can keep running costs predictable.
Compliant throughout
The installation meets current health, safety and environmental standards, installed to comply with F-Gas requirements and building control regulations.
